What is the Process for Roof Installation?

There is a lot that goes into the process of properly installing a roof, which is why you should hire professional roofing contractors. Here’s the process to install a roof: Remove & discard the old roof - To start our roofing contractors will take off the old roof and throw away or recycle those materials. Since roofing shingles can be recycled, most roofing companies or homeowners do recycle them. Check if repairs are needed - Depending on the severity of the damage our roofing contractors may need to do a few repairs before laying down the underlayment for your new roof. If your roof was damaged by a storm, then the structure of your home may need to be repaired. Install underlayment - An underlayment is a layer that protects your roof from getting unwanted moisture under your roof. For even more peace of mind, our roofing contractors will add a felt or tar sheet over the underlayment to act as an extra layer of protection from moisture. Putting down the roof cover - The roof covering is made up of whatever roofing material you decided to go with for your home, so it could be asphalt, metal, or some other material. Our roofing contractors will be precise during this step of the roof installation process because it’s the layer that will be seen by the public. Seal with flashing - Flashing is a material made of metal that is used to do one last seal around chimneys or windows to keep moisture from getting in and causing things to rust and mold. Covering the ridge - The ridge is the middle of your roof where the two sides of your roof meet.
